Bandar Seri Begawana
- THE Ministry of Defence (Mindef)
will be launching a multi-million dollar ICT project which will enable
civilians to apply and join the defence force
through the internet.
The project, also known as the Defence Personnel
Administration Information System (DefPAIS), will
help the ministry to store its administrative documents and personnel
records in an electronic database as well as convert numerous file papers
into images for ease of simultaneous access by multiple users.
A contract was signed between the ministry and ATB Technologies and its
partner Singapore Computer Systems (SCS) in October 2005, in which both
companies were to deliver a Human Resource Management Information System
and Electronic Document Management System over 18 months, with a 12-month
warranty period.
A regional business IT news portal, www.computerworld.com.my,
quoted former Mindef Permanent Secretary Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat as saying that the DefPAIS project attracted more than 10 local and
international bidders.
SCS Trusted Services, which have been deployed in multiple sectors
including banking, government, insurance, logistics, manufacturing,
pharmaceutical, property and telecommunication, are designed to maximise organisational
performance and are compliant with regulatory and security guidelines, said
the report.
The new system, to be launched at the Berakas
Garrison tomorrow, will also let Mindef's
servicemen to access key personnel services via a self-service portal.
