- E-GOVERNMENT authorities may be considering the appointment of a Chief
Information Officer (CIO) within every Bruneian
ministry to see e-government projects through.
The CIO role was discussed by participants at the E-government Leadership
Forum (EGLF), held at the Centre for Strategic Policy and Studies, the
Prime Minister's Office.
Where the role of CIO has been introduced in the e-government initiatives
of other countries, the person holding said office is made responsible for
info-communication technology systems which support organisation
goals.
A press statement issued on the closed-door event's proceedings reported
discourse on the need for heightened professionalism and commitment between
government agencies in handling challenges in e-government implementation.
EGLF members also passed consideration and approval on various e-government
projects.
Little else was released apart from reiterations on the strategic direction
of the e-government projects to meet His Majesty's Government's objectives
to modernise the quality and effectiveness of the
local civil service.
Leading the meeting was the Deputy Minister at Prime Minister's Office, Dato Seri Paduka Hj Eusoff Agaki
Hj Ismail, as EGLF
chairman and "Executive Owner" of Brunei's national e-government
drive.
The forum saw participation from permanent secretaries and deputy permanent
secretaries from all ministries.
The E-government Technical Authority Body (EGTAB), an advisory body formed
to review implementations of the projects in question and the EGLF
Secretariat, was also present to deliver a report at the meeting.
The EGLF meeting is the first to be held this year.
