Seri Begawan – To increase efficiency and reduce paper
work, the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources yesterday morning
launched its eFisheries online service, which is part of the eMIPR
initiative under Brunei Darussalam's e-Government project.
According to the Permanent Secretary at
the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid
bin Hj Mohd Jaafar, the eFisheries project is part of the ministry's
initiative to heed the titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan,
in which the public services were told to mark 2007 as the year to improve
the quality of public service delivery in order to fulfil their role as
facilitators of national development.
The permanent secretary, who was speaking
during the launching ceremony at the Dewan Setia Pahlawan of the Ministry
of Industry and Primary Resources, said that the ministry hopes that the
eMIPR Business Facilitation Services will become a "single
window" for all integrated services required by entrepreneurs and
investors.
To assist entrepreneurs, an eMIPR Help
Centre has been set up in the Industry and Trade Information Centre at the MIPR Building, he said, adding that
branches of the Business Help Centre will also be set up in all departments
under the ministry.
It is hoped that the eFisheries initiative
would facilitate the realisation of the Fisheries Department's vision,
which is "Sustainable and Competitive Fisheries Contributing Towards A
Diversified Economy", said the guest of honour.
The move towards an effective, reliable,
and business friendly eFisheries will enable both foreign investors and
local entrepreneurs to establish ventures within the countries to get the
necessary licences and services from the Fisheries Department.
The guest of honour urged entrepreneurs
and investors to make full use of the services under the eFisheries as a
way of getting a competitive edge in business.
The eFisheries project of the department
of Fisheries started with the development and implementation of the
$248,000 Network Infrastructure project, which started in the beginning of
2005 and completed in 2006.
With the implementation of the project, it
has enabled interconnectivity between the department's headquarters and its
field stations and branches throughout the country.
Following the first phase, the Department
of Fisheries proceeded with the implementation of the second phase with the
Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.
The second phase of the eFisheries project
consists of two components namely "Release 1a" (Business
Facilitation Services) and "Release 1b" (Management Information
System). The project was completed in April 2007.
Through the eFisheries, entrepreneurs,
investors and the public can avail to the several services provided by the
Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and
other government agencies such as the application and renewal of fisheries
licences, import and export permits anytime. The public can log on to
www.bruneimipr.gov.bn.
Director of Fisheries Dayang Hjh Hasnah
Ibrahim and officials of various departments were among those who attended
yesterday's launching ceremony.
