Bandar Seri BegawanThe Information Department is in the process of human resources capacity building through a $989,910 editorial system makeover, the ePelita Project.
This was announced yesterday during a contract signing between the Information Department and AV Electronics Sendiran Berhad.

Signing on behalf of the government was Information Department Acting Director Haji Mahrub Bin Awang Haji Murni, While AV Electronics was represented by Parvinder Amar Leddar.

At $989, 910, this project will be the second largest project after the PMOnet Project – an IT network infrastructure for the Information Department.

Implementation of the system will be performed in stages and will completed in approximately five months.

The implementation of this system is in line with the e-Government initiative to develop ICT, as underlined in the Brunei Information Technology (BIT) national objective.

“The implementation of this system will improve speed, efficiency and quality of information dissemination to the public, which is in line with our motto: ‘Inculcating an Informative Society,” said the Information Department Acting Director.

“This system will develop the capacity of their human resource as well as improve the capacity of the Information Department’s productivity in disseminating information to the public,” he added.

The ePelita flagship will include the news section, photography section, English news section, website, as well as publication and exhibition section of the Information Department.

Thus, through the ePelita, there will be total interconnectivity amongst officers and staff.

In his speech, Haji Mahrub also urged personnel of the Information Department to fully utilize the ePelita system to develop the quality and productivity of their work, while providing effective service to the public in enhancing the department.

ePelita will utilize the Tera Digital Publishing Solution, which is used by newspapers in Europe, Latin America and in the Asia Pacific.

This system will deliver the future of publishing by streamlining the existing process via technology, which enables higher content value in terms of quality and integrity.

It benefits the user by enabling the user to produce quality content and consistency via the usage of shared spell-checker, centralized rules, templates and concurrent access.

Therefore, the department will be able to produce more, at a faster rate, with the same workforce.

Reporting will also be improved as editorials will have full control of current production and thus improve news reporting and extend the current deadlines for the latest and up-to-date news.

The system will allow more focus on quality rather than quantity, as it provides a central database and archive system that will ensure data integrity, thereby eliminating common problems such as data duplication and non-updated information.

Moreover, it will provide a multimedia newsroom for customized content to other media without an increase in operational costs.
