Bandar Seri
Begawan – The Mobile Teaching & Learning (Mobitel) project was initiated with a signing ceremony
the supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance
of related hardware and software for mobile teaching and learning in government
primary and secondary schools between the Ministry of Education and AV
Electronics Pte Ltd at the Business Centre of the
Empire Hotel and Country Club yesterday.
Present at the guest of honour was Dyg Hjh Norjum
bte Yusop, Deputy
Permanent Secretary (Corporate Services) at the Ministry of Education.
The Mobitel project is one of focused areas under
the e-Education project, which is part of the E- Government initiatives.
With the signing of the contract, AV Electronics Pte
Ltd will be providing computer equipment such as laptops, printers, LCD
projectors and software.
The project is similar to that of a conventional computer lab. However,
instead of desktop computers students will be using laptops.
Through this project, teaching and learning can be done practically
anywhere and anytime within school grounds. Mobitel
will also allow Internet access from anywhere within the school.
The present ICT facilities available in computer labs (fixed labs) with
desktops computers no longer suffice the high demand for its usage.
Furthermore, a teaching professional can only use the facilities at least
once in a month.
The Mobitel project does not limit ICT-aided
teaching and learning to special rooms like a lab. An interesting feature
is that teachers will be able to monitor and control students’ computers
with Remote Desktop Management software.
Through these innovative Apple mobile learning labs, it will be much easier
to bring a digital learning environment into every classroom.
Designed specifically for schools, these mobile labs provide teachers and
students flexible, affordable and convenient access to technology.
Research has shown that the more students have access to technology-based
learning, the greatest their engagement and achievements.
Hj Soffian Hj Mohd Freddie Chong, the Marketing Manager of AV Electronics, said,
“The whole idea for the project is (provide students and teachers) with a
mobile teaching and learning aid.”
The project can also encourage students and teachers to think outside the
box and not just learn how to use Word and Excel applications, he added.
