Bandar Seri BegawanBrunei is among the top countries in southern and eastern Asian region in terms of e-government readiness, based on the United Nations' Global e-Government Readiness Report in 2005.

Due to improved government presence on the Internet and a pool of English speaking human capital, the country was ranked eighth in the region, after South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and China, stated the report.

Industry observers said the results of the UN study "is really favourable to the Sultanate, as we have gained stature in terms of providing government content online".

They also said the study took notice of the Brunei government portal, which was cited to be a good practice for a developing country.

"This means that our government portal is an excellent example for developing countries," they said.
