Seminar offers government opportunity to explore IT infrastructure options

Bandar Seri Begawan – Universal System Technologies (UST), a subsidiary company of Universal Electronic Enterprises (UEE) in collaboration with Cisco Systems, American Power Corporations (APC) and Computer Sciences Corporations (CSC) Malaysia, hosted the "Next Generation of e-Government" seminar on Monday at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.

 

More than 130 guests attended the seminar including Tuan Hj Rozan bin Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yunus, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance. Also present were directors, CIO, CTO and head of Information Technology from various departments under the Brunei government as well as banks and other IT companies throughout the country.

 

In honouring the implementation of e-Government that has become the main driving force of innovation in the Sultanate, the seminar offered the perfect opportunity for the government to explore its IT infrastructure options.

 

Mr Lee Boon Hoo, Director of Sales of CSC Malaysia, in his welcoming speech said the advent of new technologies has virtually made t he world smaller, and the distance between one and another becomes virtually borderless. These new waves of technologies not only affect businesses in the private sector but also the government in the public sector.

 

He added that e-government should encompass convenience, cost-effectiveness, accountability, improving delivery and transforming governance, responsiveness and delivering citizen-centric services.

 

The seminar comprised three sessions namely Predictable Data Centre for an Unpredictable Environment, Unified Communication Delivers Effective Communication and Streamline Government Processes and Increase Productivity, and Responsiveness through Mobility Access and Cisco Self-Defending Network: Securing the Intelligent Information Network.

 

The "Next Generation of e-Government" seminar also shared some insights into the experts with presentations and demonstrations focused on how an advanced technology can distinctly benefit the Brunei government to increase staff productivity. The key message of the seminar was to generate and build awareness on the latest trends in technology that can serve as the basis for formulation of the IT technology backbone of e-Government.
