The National Summit on Information Society (NASIS) is held at
the International Convention Centre from The vision of Brunei Darussalam on information society is to
create a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented information
society where everyone can create, access, utilise and share information and
knowledge. This shall be supported by a ubiquitous access to a highly
developed ICT networks to enable individuals, communities and people to
achieve their full potential in promoting their sustainable development and
improving their quality of life and transform Brunei Darussalam into a
knowledge economy. Among the objectives of this document is to enhance the level of
ICT literacy among all members of the society as well as to ensure a
sustainable level of the supply of needed IT experts and other personnel in
the country. To attain this vision and the objectives, the document has also
identified the core strategies, focus areas, improvement areas, targets and
action plans to be implemented by the relevant agencies. The core strategies outlined in this document serve as
guidelines on which the focus areas are to be embarked upon. The focus areas
comprise of important factors such as e-Government, e-Business, e-Society,
e-Agriculture, e-Employment, e-Environment and e-Science. The document has also outlined areas that should be improved in
order to achieve an Information Society. Among these areas are access to
information and knowledge, security as well as capacity building. A number of targets have also been identified that serves as
indicators to the creation and development of an Information Society in
Brunei Darussalam. These targets include the growth of Internet users and ICT
training centres in Brunei Darussalam as well as the growth of scientist and
engineers in the near future. This document sets realistic and sustainable strategies and
targets to be implemented by the relevant agencies. This document came about with the input, support and
contribution from various parties ranging from the government sector, civil
