Bandar Seri Begawan - The success of e-government does not rely on hardware and software but on the effectiveness and skills of human resources and in continuous applications, practice and development of applications introduced in the respective e-government plans.

Pehin Dato Paduka Awg Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), made these remarks at the launching, of the Enterprise Data Centre (EDC) at the Secretariat Building in the capital, which he officiated.

The Secretariat Building and its branch at Berakas Transport Pool will be the first batch of agencies to go live through the PMO Online Services

He said PMONet will be the main foundation in increasing the service performances of PMO and departments under it. In developing and ensuring the continuity of the PMONet application, staff at PMO and departments and agencies under it does not only act as end users but also as input providers to PMONet.

On the whole, he said, it is the aim of PMO through PMONet to provide more effective services to its customers in the form of network, i.e. government to government, government to business and government to public members or citizens.

The main obstacle that needs to be tackled firmly and effectively at this early stage is the migration of work culture from manual to ICT facilities where they need to adapt to the changes with commitment and determination as fast as possible in a short period of time, Pehin Hazair said.

The expectations and scepticism of public members since the announcement of the e-government programme should be taken as a challenge and motivating factor by making various preparations and equipping themselves with the required knowledge and skills, added the permanent secretary. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
