Yesterday saw the launching of a new IT company, TechnoNet Brunei, as the local company partnered up with a global leader in enterprise software solutions, Hummingbird Ltd, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Sulaiman bin Pg Hj Ismail, was present to witness the MoU signing between Awg Abd Ghani bin Pg Hj Metusin, Managing Director cum CEO of TechnoNet Sdn Bhd, and Mr. Bala Subramaniam, General Manager of Hummingbird Asia.

Also present was Canadian High Commissioner to Brunei, Mr Paul Lau and other key players in the country's ICT sector.

As Brunei is currently in the process of embracing ICT with the e-Government initiative and the drive towards e-Business, Awg Abd Ghani said "we can remain competitive in the global market by using technology as a tool that works for us."

He further said in his speech that with the government placing great emphasis on the development of IT infrastructure, the additional support and close co-operation from the private sector will enable the government to handle all the resulting issues more effectively.

This is where the newly established company plays an important role to help fuel the drive towards establishing a knowledge-based society as well as a technologically advanced country, he added.

One of the most challenging aspects of running an organisation is managing information, and it is TechnoNet's priority to help clients manage information better and use information in order to gain a competitive edge over their rivals.

With information being the most important asset in any organisation, there is a need to ensure that it is managed properly and securely, whereby TecnoNet specialises in the management of information or in the IT term 'Enterprise Information Management'.

Partnering up with Hummingbird with its software solution product like Electronic Document Management System (EDMS), it enables organisations to manage the lifecycle enterprise content from creation to disposition and address critical business continuity, compliance and risk mitigation.

Mr. Subramaniam, meanwhile in his presentation, said he was proud to be associated with the Canadian government, where there is a strong presence of Hummingbird in the said government system.

Canadian government has also been awarded as the e-government system winner, added Mr. Subramaniam.

And now there will be a Hummingbird presence in the Brunei's market, he further said.

Founded in 1984, Hummingbird employs approximately 1,420 people. Over 33,000 customers worldwide, including 90% of Fortune 100, rely on Hummingbird technology to access, manage, analyse and work together around structured and unstructured business content.

Meanwhile, TechnoNet, although new, the company already has offices in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah that have been in operation since 1997.

TechnoNet's MoU signing with Hummingbird will not only strengthen the company's credibility but will also greatly assist the firm in achieving its goals to serve clients better, as people today focus on efficiency, productivity and results.
