ICT Seminars on Networking solutions

Kuala Belait - More than 70 Information and Communications Technology-related staff from the public and private sectors attended a half-day seminar designed to familiarise them with the development of e-government held yesterday morning at the Riverview Hotel, Gadong.

Organised by a local company Gigabyte Networking Services and Singapore's Fluke Networks, the ICT seminar on networking solutions was attended by mainly ICT related staff from the Ministry of Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Telecommunications Department, Prime Minister's Department, Universiti Brunei Damssalam, Institut Teknologi Brunei and Radio Television Brunei.

Staff of Brunei Shell Petroleum, Brunei LNG, DSTCom, IDBB and NBT (Brunei) was also present at the seminar.

The participants mainly learned on network health and analysis delivered by a speaker from Singapore's Fluke Networks, Eric Lie.

According to David Ting of Gigabyte Networking Services, the seminar was mainly attended by ICT staff relevant towards e-government solution in software and hardware towards maintaining network health.

The seminar was also meant to prepare civil servants for a major and extensive change-management process that will involve all tiers within the government departments and the population.

This will involve various aspects of information giving and information sharing, training and retraining and the full verbal commitment of all levels of the civil service.

He added that in light of this, the new technology demands new skills, changes in mindset, economic and social policies as well as the shift in cultural norms.

Industry observers meanwhile stated that ICT has contributed to the development of good governance which is characterised by high standards of transparency, accountability and access. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
