Working towards a paperless society

Inline with the national IT Strategic Plan to drive the public sector towards Electronic Government along with other major thrusts to drive the paperless society and the private sector towards Electronic Commerce, Sapura Brunei has taken the initiative to hold a seminar entitled 'Towards A Paperless Society' which was held at the Civil Service Institute, yesterday.

 

The objective of the seminar was to introduce the concept of electronic document management and also knowledge management within organisations. It covers some successful case studies with implementation within some governments in Asean.

Initially, a brief introduction on Sapura (B) Sdn Bhd was delivered by Muhammad Reeda Malik, the Business Development Manager of Brunei Sapura. Later Mr. Leon Chua, the CEO of TechnoNet Sdn Bhd delivered his two topics on Enterprise Information Portal & Knowledge Management and a full demonstration of Hummingbird Solutions.

 

He discussed some top post of Y2K issues for C10s such as to enable to access to relevant information, increase productivity, more efficient communications with employees, to create and maintain competitive advantage, to enable better and faster decision making.

 

He explained that there was existence of fierce competition whereby the aspects of Internet making the world smaller, the changing of business, evolution of IT infrastructure. Furthermore he explained that as to make life easier, it is centralised and has access to everything, data and application structured and unstructured, Internet and external solutions availability, fewer passwords required, unified look and feel for faster learning.

 

He mentioned the benefits of a paperless society whereby the information can be shared, the increase of knowledge transfer, provide operational efficiencies, improve organisation responsiveness, facilitate organisation learning and facilitate sharing and expertise, allow access to up to date information, improve communication and to gain the creativity and innovation of the people.
