Bandar Seri Begawan - In this fast changing era of technologies and challenges, Brunei has made several initiatives on info-communications technologies, the ICT sector and the development of IT infrastructures, the Permanent Secretary of Communications Dato Haji Abdullah said.

Officiating the 12th Asian Multimedia Forum (AMF) yesterday, Dato Haji Abdullah said the nationwide broadband network RAGAM 21 has resulted in a high degree of IT diffusion in almost all sectors of the country's economy.

This infrastructure has paved the way for enhancing Brunei's global competitiveness in the ICT sector, he said.

The permanent secretary also revealed other steps currently undertaken include the provision of government services online with excellent international connectivity through submarine cables and satellites.

The nearly established Brunei National Information Technology (BIT Council) is implementing key initiatives in Brunei's IT strategic plan 2000 and beyond he said.

The two-day meeting is attended by senior officials from the ASEAN Multimedia Forum organisation members and the AMF Secretariat.
