The theme of the conference is "Improving
Health Care in developing countries through Telehealth". With the implementation of Telehealth,
expert knowledge is immediately available on line and on time. The advancementin telecommunication now has provided
opportunities for immense changes in health care. The conference coincides with the World Health Organisation's Regional Committee Meeting for the Western
Pacific Region consisting of 37 countries and areas of Western Pacific Region
of WHO. Health Ministers and Senior Officials from member
countries will attend the meet at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, where
the Western Pacific Conference in Telehealth will
also be held. Twenty internationally renowned experts and two
local speakers will share experiences in these rapidly developing fields. Dr Hj Sablee Hj Aspar,
the Acting Director of Health Care Technology Department, Ministry of Health,
will speak on the Brunei Ministry of Health's e-Health vision. Awg Hj Mahmud bin Hj Daud, Acting Director of
Information Technology and State Store, Ministry of Finance, will talk on ICT
infrastructure and e- The key note address will cover " The
emerging national e-health network: scope, strategy and current issues"

Director Adviser on Health Informatics and Telematics,
World Health Organisation. "Telecardiology
has been utilised by around 30- 40 patients who are
in very critical condition. Tele-cardiology , a
sample device for patients at home to send ECG to specialists in RIPAS
hospital, has been used for the past six months. The Ministry of Health has
also been invited to participate with the "Another device is the tele-radiology,
by which all X-rays reports can be transmtted
immediately around the sultanate. It gives a description of the condition of
the patient to be diagnose through radiology on
line. Presently, there is no electronic medical records
yet but the Ministry is able to track the location of records precisely. "In RIPAS 400,000 records or folders are
available and without tracking system it can be very time consuming. "There is also a plan in the future to
extend medical records system on line available to those authorised
24 hours a day be it at home or at practice, to be extended to all government
and private practitioners to ensure the records of the patients can be easily
assessed," he said.
The conference will cover TeleEducation,
TeleSurveillance Tele Radiology, Tele-Pathology, TeleAmbulatory care, Tele-Homecare and TeleNursing. There will also be presentation of case
studies from Participants will get a snapshot of the trends on
the applications of Telehealth supports in the
health sector in the Western Pacific Regions. It will highlight the latest
developments on pertinent and current aspects of Telehealth.
Those involved in telehealth in the Western Pacific
can meet, exchange information and experience and to build contacts for
future cooperation. Fifteen booths will be exhibited two days earlier
and will display world class and relevant products to provide ideas for those
attending the Western Pacific Conference. It will also attract at least 300-400
participants including local clinicians, nurses and Asian members
