Yesterday a seminar on e-learning entitled The Brand New Learning World was organised by Hewlett-Packard and Komputer Wisman Sdn Bhd at one of the hotels in Gadong. The seminar was officiated by Pg Hj Mohd Daud Pg Hj Puteh from the Department of School, Ministry of Education on behalf of Director of Schools Pg Datin Paduka Hjh Mariam Binti Pg Hj Matarsat.

Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahai, Managing Director of Komputer Wisman said, "Komputer Wisman has been in the forefront of introducing new technologies to Brunei Darussalam. We are committed to providing you with reliable IT products and services. With the focus of the government in building-up a knowledge-based economy, we are proud to organise this seminar on e-learning."

According to Mr Tay Chor Ter the speaker of the seminar from Hewlett-Packard Far East Pte Ltd, Singapore, "E-learning is something new in Brunei and Brunei is an important market for us."

Hj Sulaiman added, "The traditional education and training system has centred on physical classroom environments and one teacher or trainer to a limited number of students and trainees. While this system has served many countries and corporations well for centuries, the demands of the knowledge-based economy and advent of new technologies have alerted governments, corporations, communities and even the learning individuals to look beyond the traditional methods of delivering and acquiring knowledge."

He also said, "The seminar will discuss the challenges ahead and how e-learning solutions can facilitate the delivery of the right knowledge to the right audience at the right place, time and price. It will also highlight the integrated environments available and showcase Hewlett-Packard's e-learning solutions for academic learning, corporate training and adult lifelong education." He also said, "The e-learning does not only apply to school but is also for corporate use." And estimate of about 120 participants from several Government ministries and private sectors attended the seminar.
