Pg Dato Paduka Haji Maidin
said, "Brunei Darussalam needs a pool of people with a high level of
literacy in information communications technology (ICT). "Thus, the need to create a generation of
people that are experts in ICT and nurture their interest in this area
remains on the shoulders of the young and talented. With the right skill,
this future workforce of the country will help ensure that This year's theme for BITEX 2001 is 'Human
Resource Development in Information Communications Technology (ICT) Through
Education and Training'. Pg Dato Paduka Haji Maidin
explained that, "with the increasingly globalised
environment, it is vital that we keep abreast with ICT developments
elsewhere. We must try to tie our own knots in the business to business
network and make inroads into the business to consumer network. "In fact, it is this specific aspect of IT
that has enabled several economies to generate a higher level of productivity
and efficiency. It is through IT that some economies have been able to
leapfrog onto the development paths of the new economy. "The Brunei Darussalam National Information
Technology Council (BIT Council) is embarking on a strategic plan to
facilitate government, business and social interaction in IT priority areas,
including the K-Economy. The Brunei Darussalam Computer Society (PKBD) should
play a part in this effort. "I believe that the PKBD has a role to play
in bringing about the success of the three strategic drives of the BIT
Council. The three strategic drives are e-government, e-business and
e-Brunei. The overall aim is to initiate and develop an IT literate
society," concluded Pg Dato Paduka Haji Maidin. |
